Laser Skin Resurfacing
About Laser Skin Resurfacing
Are you looking for a solution for those unwelcome lines and brown spots on your skin? Maybe you’ve got some signs of aging on your face, chest, and hands that you’d like to remove. After the age of 20, your skin produces 1% less collagen each year and sun exposure doesn’t help either. We’ve got the answer to help make your skin look brand new.
If you ever thought your pores were too big, your skin tone a little uneven, or you’d like to get rid of some wrinkles, laser skin resurfacing is the perfect way for improvement. We use Cynosure’s® Icon™ Laser to give you dramatic results and a youthful looking appearance you desire. The best part is that this in-office treatment takes less than 30 minutes and without the lengthy downtime associated with an invasive facelift or other, full-ablative laser treatments. You’ll be able to show off your new look in no time.
How It Works
Microbeams or columns of energy are used to create areas of affected tissue that extend through the skin’s epidermis into the dermis. The surrounding skin stays unharmed so your skin will heal faster. New healthy cells will be cleared away as your body goes through the healing process to get rid of those old, damaged skin cells. Because the laser stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin deep within your skin, over time you’ll have a younger and smoother looking appearance.
What To Expect On The Day Of Treatment
We’ll begin by putting a topical anesthetic over the area being treated. Once you’re ready for your Icon™ skin resurfacing treatment, we’ll remove the topical anesthetic and wash the skin. We’ll give you eye shields to protect yourself from the light during treatment. First, the provider will begin by guiding the Icon™ hand piece over the treatment area. Feeling heat or a tingling sensation during the treatment is normal. Usually treatments take about 30 minutes, depending on the size of the area. When finished, the treatment area will be cooled and we will apply an occlusive ointment to decrease the healing time.
Our office has pretreatment care instructions for laser skin resurfacing patients so please remember to contact us prior to the day of your treatment.
Post Treatment Instructions For Skin Resurfacing
– It is typical for your skin to feel warm and appear to be sunburned immediately after the treatment. Swelling and pinpoint bleeding may also accompany this.
– Ice/cold packs should be used as instructed for swelling and discomfort.
– Make sure to apply an occlusive ointment to decrease healing time and minimize discomfort to the treated area.
– Try to avoid sun exposure during the first few weeks following the procedure. A broad-spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunblock SPF 50 or greater should be used for any transient exposure. If possible, cover treated area with clothing or use a wide brimmed hat to reduce exposure.
Refer to your post-treatment care instructions provided by your doctor for more detail.
